VIVO IPL 2019 Opening match fixture Schedules Defending Champions Chennai Super Kings will face off against Royal Challengers Bangalore at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

The last season of both CSK and RCB.

MS Dhoni’s side played 14 Scheduled matches, out of which CSK won 9 matches – this dispite having to shift base to pune, sailed straight to the final by winning the first playoff and then turned in a dominant performance in the title clash to clinch their third IPL title.
The CSK franchise has retained the bulk of the squad that they had in the last season of IPL. CSK franchise have given themselves a couple of more options to rule in this season of IPL by acquiring Ruturaj Gaikwad (Maharashtra Opening Batsman) and a senior Indian Pacer Mohit Sharma in the IPL players Auction 2019.

The title holders of last season of IPL were dealt a lethal blow days prior to their opening match when South African pacer Lungi Ngidi was ruled out of the season with a side strain. It will be interesting to see if the team management replaces him with David Willey or if they tinker around with the line-up.

Royal Challengers BangaloreRCB franchise had an disappointing season of IPL in 2018. They have played all of their 14 league matches in which RCB manage to win just 6 matches and finished the season by standing at sixth of the eight place. Virat Kohli’s team won only 3 of their first 10 matches and were therefore always playing catch up.
Heading into their last league match, they were still in with a chance of progressing to the Playoffs; but Rajasthan Royals emerged victors in that match and qualified as the fourth qualifier.

RCB franchise have almost retained their 15 players from their last season squad I.e. 2018. They have gone through acquiring of nine more players services at the IPL Auction 2019. Shimron Hetmyer, Shivam Dube and Heinrich Klaasen are among the exciting new signings. They will be missing some of their players at the start of the season due to international commitments of the overseas players namely Marcus Stoinis and Nathan Coulter-Nile.
